 | Ayame was sent by her grandfather to retrieve Kouga because the northern demon tribe, who live in the mountains, are fighting amongst one another. Ayame is convinced that the only way to stop them from fighting is for her to marry someone and have a family. When she was little, Kouga promised to marry her after she trained. Kouga didn't take the promise seriously, but Ayame says that the promise was the only thing that motivated her through her training. |
| She was saved by Kouga when she was little, before she went to the mountains to train and grow stronger. She hid in a tree, carrying a purple iris, to try and escape the bird of paradise that was chasing her. It was then that Kouga made the "Lunar Rainbow Promise", or the vow that he would marry her after saving her. |  |
 | Kouga appears to not remember the promise, making up excuses like "my woman needs to be able to find sacred jewels" and saying that she was little back then. Ayame decides to go back to the mountains after a fight with another one of Naraku's demons that he cut off. She declares that she will keep hoping that Kouga will keep his promise and marry her, after she can sense jewel shards. |
